Description:

Tutors assist students with deepening their understanding of course content by clarifying and reviewing class material, helping students work on solutions to problems, discussing lectures and reading materials, or predicting and practicing potential test questions. Tutors also help students to develop effective study skills and test-taking strategies. Tutors also help the center to run efficiently and effectively. Paid training is provided.

Highest demand subjects include: Math (Statistics, Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry); General Chemistry; Organic Chemistry; Economics; Accounting; and Physics. Moderate demand subjects include Biology, Engineering, and Computer Science.

Located in ELC 204, the Tutoring Center's convenient on-campus location makes it easy to work between your classes.

Qualifications:

  • Be a current SUU student.
  • Have a 3.50 or better GPA (3.75+ preferred).
  • Be willing and eligible to assist with at least three courses.
  • Earned an A or A- in the courses tutored (test out/skip acceptable for some lower-level courses).
  • Earned B or B+ may be acceptable for some courses only with professor permission.
  • Recommendation of at least 2 faculty members (provide names only, letters not necessary).
  • Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Enjoy helping others to learn.
  • Strong work ethic.
